How to consume RESTful services for 7.0.

Hello,

I have downloaded dctm-rest.war & installed in my tomcat after configuring dfc.properties for my DEV 7.0 Content Server. Now I could not find any resource which can give me any idea of how I can write a simple standalone Java class to create sessions & create a new document. I have used CMIS in past but I do not know how I can instantiate com.emc.documentum.rest.dfc.RepositorySession or com.emc.documentum.rest.dfc.RepositorySessionManager.

Can anyone help me to write a sample class.

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility. Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right. Then search for and select: "Documentum" (Developer Network) which would be the most relevant for this question.

I'm a bit puzzled myself that they didn't provide anything the like at all. They did however had some test code as part of the early developer access to REST services. There were code samples for php as well as a rediculously simple HTML/JavaScript to actually browse a repository and display content.

I will try to see if I can still get the code and adapt it to the final REST API and then ask EMC whether it would be ok to release to the community.

The tutorial is in Python, but I think it's pretty straightforward to convert the logic from this tutorial to Java.

Vishal, interaction with REST resources is a little bit different than with more traditional APIs or other web services. For example there is no notion of creating a session - all interactions with server side are stateless. As Jerry pointed out, have a look at the tutorials mentioned in other comments and hopefully you'll get an idea on how to proceed. Note that you can browse entire repository through our REST without writing any code - since it is built on uniform interfaces, so you can just point your browser to your deployed REST war app (i.e. http://localhost:8080/dctm-rest/) and you'll get our home page, providing link to Services resource - and from there you can follow discovery process and find your way to the repository - once you do you'll be prompted for login challenge and you can continue diving further and so on... Behind the scenes browser is doing GET (i.e. read) on all resources you're accessing - that is the simplest way to play with our REST. Note that depending on the browser you may need a plugin for either XML or JSON to make interactions with link relations easier. Using pre-built REST client (i.e. REST for Chrome) you can easily switch from GET to other HTTP verbs to dive into PUT/POST/DELETE type of requests. When you want to build your own client - you can follow the same paradigm - remember that there is no sessions, interactions are stateless, and you're transferring resources state between server and client (or client and server).

Hi all ,

I have deployed the DCTM-rest .war as per the development guide . But when i try to invoke the service it doesnt do so.

For eg: http://localhost:8080/poc/repositories . It gives 404 and I could see the service is not invoked . How do I make sure that the deployment is correct? I dont see any error while the war is deployed?
