can anyone tell me what would be the steps required to migrate content from installation of 4.5 to 6.5
our company is using TS 4.5 version and want to upgrage to TS 6.5
also tell me how long is the whole process on an average.
would it be better to install interwoven from scratch and then migrate the content to the new installation or we can upgrade the existing version
please help

This is a tough upgrade, tell your boss to hire a consultant for a few weeks.
When they say no, install 6.5 on a new server, copy the Staging area from the 4.5
server to the 6.5 server and submit.
Templates and WFs will be tough

thanks for your reply
Is the structure of ts 4.5 templating and workflow very different from 6.5?
i thought they were using the same tags accept for new additions but they still should have the same tags. please clarify
Thanks

yes, that's right!
E.g. why don't they hire a team? Greg and Nipper...
we are experts in 4.5->6.5 upgrades.... arent we?

yea
Greg & I know all about upgrades from 4.5 to 6.5
Will templates and WFs work out of the box from 4.5 to 6.5 ? Mostly,
there may be a few bugs. But the real point is that there is new
functionality that IW has added in the past 5 years (4.5 was 2000
or 2001 IIRC). You probably want to use some of those features.
OD is completely different. (as Greg remembers)

one more query
when doing upgrade to the new version from 5.5.2 win2k to 6.5 win2k3 what should be the sequence
i think
upgrade ts from 5.5.2 to 6.5 and then upgrade win2k to 2k3 or vice versa?
also does upgrading of the operating system will have any affect on the current TS installation files?
thanks in advance
gzevin
don't feel SO safe. I can do gigs in the US as well. you are not immune
as for the upgrade. I'd upgrade the OS first and then TS.
however, if I were you, I'd ask support.. if upgrades of OS's are supported.... Usually I'd do installs on a fresh box. You can always backup and restore the backing store, that is compatible.

4.x to 6.x -- probably best bet is to install from scratch on a new server, migrate your content [lose the history], and then spend a whole lot of time workiing on migrating your customizations. There have been a lot of changes between the two versions, as have been pointed out, and while many aspects have not changed, many aspects have and it would be foolish to think that everything will work as-is.
Level of effort estimate - months
5.5.2 to 6.x -- best thing to do is install from scratch on a new server (you can get the OS set correctly on the new server first) - and then copy the entire backing store over to your new 6.x box (shut down TS6 first, then bring it up after putting the backing store into place) - then, since you're on Windows - you'll probably have to do some iwidmap stuff to get all the userids and groupids re-situated for the new environment.
Level of effort estimate - weeks

Since 5.5.2 is not supported on Win2k3 you would have to upgrade from 5.5.2 to 6.5 first before
you tried to go to 2k3.
