Update document permissions using DQL

Hi,

Here is my requirement. i need to update permissions for documents in 'Retired' state in Documentum repository.

(I need to alter permissions for 'Business_owner'.)

Is it feasible to acheive this using queries. I am basically a Java developer with minimal knowledge of Documentum . Please help.

No, you cannot do this with a DQL query.  ACLs are protected objects in the repository and can only be updated via the DFC.  You could certainly use a query to find all the objects that need to be updated, but the actual update would have to be done in the DFC.

You might get away with using an SQL query like:

update dm_acl_r

set r_accessor_permit = [the permission you desire]

where r_accessor_name = 'Business_owner' and r_object_id in

(

select sa.r_object_id from dm_sysobject_s d, dm_acl_r ar, dm_acl_s sa where

ar.r_object_id = sa.r_object_id and sa.object_name = d.acl_name and

sa.owner_name = d.acl_domain and d.object_name = '[name of object to update]'

)

But I'd stick to the DFC just to be safe.
