Error while saving

I am trying to implement a function in FORMAPI to calculate the replicant index for parent and child elements but keep on getting the error:
"Object doesn't support this property or method"

I am calling in the said method in three ways in the init function. If I removed the return true statement, I don't get any error but it doesn't save the form. We are using Teamsite 6.5:

setReplicantItems(null);
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/poll/questions", "OnReplicantAdded", setReplicantItems);
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSave", setReplicantItems);

function setReplicantItems(item)
{
var i = 1;
var this_question;
while( this_question = IWDatacapture.getItem( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]" ) )
{
var j = 1;
var this_answer;
while( this_answer = IWDatacapture.getItem( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]/answers[" + j + "]" ) )
{
IWDatacapture.getItem( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]/answers[" + j + "]/child_replicant_id" ).setValue(j);
j++;
}
IWDatacapture.getItem( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]/parent_replicant_id" ).setValue(i);
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]/answers", "OnReplicantAdded", setReplicantItems );
i++;
}
return true;
}

I'm not sure why you are getting an error, but I would recommend changing how your function works. Please take a look at .getChildren(). Use this to iterate through a replicant instead.

Also, there is no need for this line:

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler( "/poll/questions[" + i + "]/answers", "OnReplicantAdded", setReplicantItems );

All you need is the following onFormInit:

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/poll/questions/answers", "OnReplicantAdded", setReplicantItems);

I am still getting the following error:

"Object doesn't support this property or method"

When I click the debug, it gives me the following code to debug which is not contained in my javascript code.

var IWSerializer = new Object();
IWSerializer.CDATASTART="<![CDATA[";
IWSerializer.CDATAEND="]]>";
IWSerializer.encoding = "UTF-8";

function processForTransport(str)
{
-----> if (str.search("]]>") < 0) <----- Break
{
return IWSerializer.CDATASTART + str + IWSerializer.CDATAEND;
}
else
{
return XMLEscape(str);
}
}

function XMLEscape(str)
{
//Implementation is the same as HTML escape.
return HTMLEscape(str);
}

What happens if you change your function to do nothing else other than return true? If that works, add your logic in chunk by chunk until you get the error, that will tell you where you are going wrong.

I have seen some IWOV functions fail because they take a string argument but they don't check the data type.

Try using .toString() method on the arg you are passing.
