xCP 2.0 - Questions from a developer

Hello to all

We are implementing projects in xCP 2.0 and questions below have appeared.

Is it possible to customize Application UI pages? Especially Settings and System 404 Page (not suitable for end users to see the same page for all and/or to see system error page 404)?
How to customize length of input fields in business object's pages according to sizes of its attributes (not guessing pixels or percentage) without developing custom widgets?
1. Strings and numbers - only by pixels, auto not working in the required way (auto means stretching to the border of the window not to the length of the attribute)
2. Drop down lists - no way
How to cooperate from xCP Designer with artifacts from non-xCP applications (types, documents, roles, ACLs …) already existing in a repository?
How to localize xCP app without losing localization during the next build from inside xCP Designer?
It’s not possible to go to another page of the business object other than the current one or general UI pages, when invoking data service is chosen on the page.
How to create a relation between content object and a business object during importing a content into the repository without custom widgets?
How to prevent the loss of the relationship between a business object and a content-object when a new version of the content object is created without custom widgets?
Will EMC deploy any framework (a plugin for xCP Designer, standalone application ,…) to make it easier to develop widgets?
How to create a widget with the completely new GUI (for cases when I cannot inherit from any other existing widget)?
How to bind actions to the moment, when the user ends his work or simply closes the browser's window?
Is there any way how to detect where in the application's project the widget is used?
It is not possible to extend a wizard for importing of documents by more pages. There is just one and this one gives no possibility to work with imported document (no possibility to bind it with another existing business object). Is there any future plan giving us the possibility to add pages into the wizard's flow?
Automatically filled form fields in the document's importing page are not written into the created instance of the document (only those initiated with the structure "Inputs" are written). Bug?
How to make picklists from one xCP application reachable for other xCP 2.0 applications? For non-xCP apps?

Firstly, welcome to the forums, but above all thank you for being an EMC customer!

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility. Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right. Then search for and select: "Documentum" (Developer Network) which would be the most relevant for this question.

Here are the answers.

No, we are considering this for a future release but it is not committed to the roadmap at this time.

2. How to customize length of input fields in business object's pages according to sizes of its attributes (not guessing pixels or percentage) without developing custom widgets?

Strings and numbers - only by pixels, auto not working in the required way (auto means stretching to the border of the window not to the length of the attribute)
Drop down lists - no way

Yes, in 2.1 we are going to have custom css support for form fields that should help. (This applies to the sub-parts)

3. How to cooperate from xCP Designer with artefacts from non-xCP applications (types, documents, roles, ACLs …) already existing in a repository?

This is not supported in 2.0. This will be supported in 2.1. The feature is called type adoption.

4. How to localize xCP app without losing localization during the next build from inside xCP Designer?

- Have the application locale file as part of libraries and import those libraries in the Designer

- In Runtime these locale file would be looked into folder as well as in jar files

- If there is any change in the localization, the updated library jar file need to be imported in the Designer

5. It’s not possible to go to another page of the business object other than the current one or general UI pages, when invoking data service is chosen on the page.

It is possible, within the list of pages displayed in the drop down list, you should find the pages associated to the business object also.For example, you can configure a button within the Edit page to save the changes, and when done, jump to the View page.

6. How to create a relation between content object and a business object during importing a content into the repository without custom widgets?

It is not something really out of the box, but the best way would be:

Within the import action flow UI step, create a selector to be able to reference a business object
Configure the selector to have as the initial value an attribute of the content object to store the object id of the business object
Create a business event on the content object to start a stateless process which would relate the content object to the business object

7. How to prevent the loss of the relationship between a business object and a content-object when a new version of the content object is created without custom widgets?

By default, xCP2.0 always updates the relationship with the latest version of the object. If you want to have a relationship between the business object and a previous version of the content object, then you would have to model a stateless process and create the relationship with the ID of the previous version.

8. Will EMC deploy any framework (a plugin for xCP Designer, standalone application ,…) to make it easier to develop widgets?

Yes, Markup driving the properties panel in 2.1 would help here. With markup customer can develop custom widget and have complex properties configuration. Additionally we have provided hooks to inject handy methods for custom widgets, these handy methods would allow custom widget to have better interaction with rest of the UI infra, e.g. accessing/setting session parameters, publishing/subscribing to UI events, accessing page context, page navigation, etc.

9. How to create a widget with the completely new GUI (for cases when I cannot inherit from any other existing widget)?

Yes, One can develop a completely new widget by extending Ext base component, no need to extend the custom widgets from existing (OTB) xCP widgets.

10. How to bind actions to the moment, when the user ends his work or simply closes the browser's window?

Yes, one can create own UI event (say On browser window close) and publish that UI Event from the custom code by listening on the browser close JS event.

11. Is there any way how to detect where in the application's project the widget is used?

No, there is no detection mechanism, however if the already used widget goes missing due to any reason (e.g. renaming, missing widget library) user should see errors in problems tab

12. It is not possible to extend a wizard for importing of documents by more pages. There is just one and this one gives no possibility to work with imported document (no possibility to bind it with another existing business object). Is there any future plan giving us the possibility to add pages into the wizard's flow?

Yes, in xCP 2.1 you will have fill control on the import action itself and from where it can be launched.

Yes, would be fixed in 2.1 as we are making it completely compose-able, so one can add/change fields and map them to the import template data action exposed on the action flow

14. How to make picklists from one xCP application reachable for other xCP 2.0 applications? For non-xCP apps?

Make a separate project out of the picklist. This project then can be imported across multiple xCP applications and used. The picklist cannot be shared with a non-xCP application.
