Restricting format dropdown while importing in xCP 2.0

Hi,

By default, we get a dropdown with suggested versions of format when we import a document. For example, when we try importing a word document, it will ask us to select the options like MS Word 2007 or 2010.

Is there any option to freeze this dropdown and retain the format version same as that of the uploaded document from the local drive.

Any suggestions regarding this?

Can you please let me know how you achieved this i.e. attaching metadata while importing the content.

I have a requirement i.e Creating a case(Folder Object)

and add attachments while creating the case.

i dont understand the need of restricting the list of format since docx is related to both office 2007 & 2010 format

if you try to rename your document to *.doc you will have as many result as format supported that contains doc.

when you import a document the following form action is called http /serverport/ication/application/formats?extension=docx

the format is got from the document name sent in the multipart file form object

one thing you may do is to override the service /application/formats that exists in core xcp service ( if this is possible using spring contexts )

if it is possible to pinpoint what is strange about having several format related to the extension you have.

The attached screenshot flow can be achieved by Action flow ( import) that you can create on content object.

if i understand well you need to add attachment to a case folder on create time.

i guess this is not possible with default features since the object creation services cannot open UI

And stateless process can not contain manual activities and Related UI

You can create a statless process that create the Case Folder and then run the statfull process

the statfull process can contain then manual Activity that you can create an UI for to import related content.

you can manager to make your case folder in a hidden stat using permission or sandbox Cabinet until attaching content has been done by the user.

I know this adding just complexity to the case folder creation since you can have default features within folder browsing to add content. But at least you can make the case folder hidden until the operator attaches some content in it.

I didn´t quite understand the point about Spring context. Why I need to use Spring context to make this extension ?

i still dont understand what is the issue with displaying all related formats to the file extension that you are importing.

if this is more a user request please be carefull of what extensions/formats filtering may cause

( importing a documents with lower format compatibility like docx as a doc etc...)

to answer your questions :

About Spring Contexte :

i was wondering if it is possible in the applicationContext-****.xml existing in xcp application we can refer to the service /application/formats with an other class.

- About overriding XCP Services.

for this service you may check com.emc.xcp.services.content-2.0.0150.xxxx.jar in your maven location and check the following classes:

com.emc.xcp.services.content.rs.FormatController

com.emc.xcp.services.content.operations.FormatService

an easy way to do so is to decompile the classes and repalce the jar but it is a dirty/not supported way to do it and still you need to update it if you use a newer patch of XCPDesigner.

i guess a beter way to do so is to create an HTTP Filter that you map with the get format Action (/application/formats) in your web.xml file and use your custom service ( you can get inspired with default services) to update the response object

You could hide some formats using configuration in the properties dialog in the Administrator formats section.
