Access dfs as anonymous client

Hello Experts,

I have developed a DFS custom service and deployed as war, functionality implemented in custom service is to get the properties of an object.

created a client to consume the service (using Axis2) which is working fine (provided user credentials).

Question : can we access the custom service without passing user credentials (or) how can we access the custom service as an anonymous client.

DFS version: 6.7 sp2

No, you need to pass credentials to documentum so you can perform operations. The closest to what you want it would be hardcoding user/pass in your DFS application so every remote user connects to the repository as the same user.

so, does that mean we need to pass user credentials in client to access a simple "Helloworld" DFS service (which has nothing to do with repository) ?

i understand that we can handle such cases as normal java webservices, but im curious to know how user credentials work with DFS custom service.

I'm not sure I completely understand you. You can access the WS without credentials (unless you configure HTTP authentication), but to do *anything* with DFS you have to pass credentials to login into the repository. You can create a helloworld service using DFS that doesn't use DFS functionality at all, and you can use that service without credential, however, if you want to do any operation involving a repository you need to pass credentials (ie: you can expose a function that returns a string, and you won't need credentials for that, but if you use some DFS service from that exposed service you'll need the credentials)

Actually the case is, there is a Java webservice which uses DFC api to connect to repository and access a particular object properties (with a restricted user account) and there is a client (generated by axis) to access this service .

Now i want to make the service as custom DFS service (which uses the same restricted user account to access repository) and want to create a client using Axis2. Iam able to create the client and access the service by passing user credentials.However, i am looking for a way in which we can access the service without passing any credentials as anonymous client.

Could you pls help to achieve this.

You'll have to hardcode the credentials (the restricted user account) in your custom DFS service, so the client doesn't pass the credentials, exactly the same way it already done with dfc...
