i have a quick question
can any one tell the easiest way to be able to create the same no of users with same permissions on another machine?
the questions relates to the situation where upgrading of teamsite from one machine 5.5.2 win2000 to another machine 6.5 win 2003 is taking place.
that is i want to have same no of users in the new machine without loosing any users. and dont want to manually create all the users again in the new machine.
thanks in advance

if this is done already, one should probably ask Windows sysadmins, whether they can have any scripts. Also, this will ilikely depend on how the users are stored. If this is in AD, I think something could be done....
I myself usually create a script for all users and groups and then it is easily transferrable. But again, this is done BEFORE, not after ...

Read The F****NG Manual
(or read the fine manual if you do not like to swear)
sunsun
that is very unfriendly of Greg to talk in such language if he intends to say those words.
this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

RTFM is a normal answer to what should be an easy question. You will see
it very often as an answer. Greg gave you good advice, read the manual on
that command, post questions if you still do not understand.
No one is here to do your work for you, you have to figure it out yourself.
People will point you in the right direction,
sunsun
i am also not asking anyone to do my work.
Thanks for your advice.
And please do not reply if you dont intend to provide any information. If everybody can understand the documentation, there would be ano need for this forum
If someone doesnt want to help, they should not start any BS here.

On-topic: Migrating users from one Windows instance to another is complex because windows uses SIDs. Greg's suggestion to ask the sysadmins to look in their bag of tricks is not a bad idea. On unix, you could just move the backing store, and copy over the uid files into the new machine and everything would work fine - well almost ;-)

not fine, but rather FANTASTIC

Some very helpful people on the forums have what others might consider a caustic wit. As Adam (ghoti) says, RTFM is not meant to be an insult. It just means to start there.
If you have read the manual and you have further questions, it is often helpful to indiicate where the manual stopped providing useful information, or what you have attempted to research yourself.
