D2 4.1 Custom Dialog Plugin - Publish Event

Hi All.

I have created a custom dialog which is launched using the "Show dialog: action on a menu item. Once the dialog's validateDialog method is completed I would like to publish an event to refresh the UI. Is this possible or is there a different way for me to achieve this.

Hello Joe,

You have only two options that I know off: generate a "refresh" or a "locate". This can be done by setting attributes in the result.


public XmlNode validDialog(D2fsContext context) throws Exception {
    // ...

    XmlNode result = XmlFactory.getRootSuccess();
   result.setAttribute("refresh", true);
   result.setAttribute("locate", true);
   return result;
}

You cannot specify an id because that is controlled by the caller, on the client side. In other words, the generated event will contain the same oam_id you receive in the context.

I've been looking everywhere to find an example of how to create a custom dialog in D2 4.2 that can be triggered from a menu item. From your post it appears that you've managed to do this. Is there any code you could provide as an example of this?

Hi,

My suggestion was for a D2 4.1. That behavior may have changed in D2 4.2 due to the version change and because it was not a public extension point.

Without looking to the 4.2 version (which I don't have access to, right now) I cannot confirm what will work. My suggestion is to use your favorite browser's development extensions and monitor the traffic and events published on the client-side when you open and confirm a standard dialog. Check several dialogs to get the pattern. It's a bit on the "reverse engineering" side but, for D2 4.1, the documentation was lacking and I guess it didn't get much better, because you're asking how to do it.
