Hi,
Are there any recommendation to use or not to use Anti Virus on CS, xPlore or CTS? And if use, do we need to ensure particular settings for optimal usage?
Let me know your opinion on the same.

Anurag

Hi ,
From xPlore 1.3 Admin guide :
Virus checking software
Virus checking software can lead to high disk I/O because it continually checks the changes in xPlore file structures during indexing.
Workarounds: Exclude temp and xPlore working and data directories, or switch to Linux platform.
hello ,
Recommendation for AntiVirus is available in all installatiuon documentation for each component. All I know is you have to disable antivirus scan on specific folder (xPlore, CS and CTS installation folder) and also in data folder in order to keep good performance.
Thanks. But I cant find in any install document. My assumption is same as you, but couldnt find it documented. Could you give a reference of document? I checked D7 CS insta,, xPlore 1.3 install guide
Checked with keyword virus, scan, anti virus but nothing much
I'd intend to say that antovirus is not necessary on your servers, PROVIDED that you know for sure that all the client machines connecting to your system arhave an up to date antivirus
Basically, any file that gets into the system, whether by importng or checking in, whill come from a client machine and therefore will already have bben checked by the client machine's antivirus. Having an antivirus running on your CS or XPlore or ADTS servers is only redundant, it's not going to check more than the client antivirus (provided you use the same software) and it's only going to slow the system down
That said, if you have people accessing the system frm teh outside word,, in whcih case you can't control which antivirus they use, then you could set the antivirus probably on your webtop/taskspace/whatever client point of entry level. Once the file has been checked there, it also becomes redundant ot check it somewhere else
My 2 cents
If due to security policies you are forced to have an anitvirus installed on the CS, I would suggest to disable the real-time scanner and schedule the scan to happen during non-working hours.
I can't even imagine how antivirus SW scans our TBs of data
Use UNIX.
Documents should be scanned on the client computer prior uploading it in the repository (i.e. Filestore(s)). Therefore their shouldn't be any requirement/need to scan the document in the Repository. Documents aren't opened/updated on the server, but Client.
The requirement to scan documents for viruses before uploading them to your repository is logical. You should not expect that all your clients will have an antivirus software installed.
Panos
In a private corporate network, where Documentum is usually deployed, you would prefer not wait until the document came to your repository for detecting any issues
