5.5.2 Filenames don't display
mike_jaixen
In the last 2 days, we've recieved 3 different reports of users who aren't able to see the list of files in any directories on the right side of WebDeskPro in 5.5.2. Other users can see the list of files fine, so it's not a global issue. All that appears are the checkboxes in front of the file names, and users can edit/view files once selected; they just can't see which file they are editing until the file opens.
Viewing the source for that frame, I can see the file names, dates, sizes, and user information from each file, so the browser is receiving this information - just not displaying it. Rebooting the workstation seems to clear up the problem, but now that it's happened to 3 different users, I can't explain it as one of those weird glitches.
My instinct is that some JavaScript or a CSS used to display the TopFrame > Master > Main frame (deeply nested frames) is malfunctioning under IE 6.0, perhaps in response to a security update installed in the last week or so. A reboot seems to clear the problem.
Anybody else experience this???

It happens many a times... as most of the times it is due to network breakage for micro seconds at the time of loading the right screen. I have also noticed when the left screen does not appear.
I dont think there is some problem is user customization or any other issue.

Have you tried a force-refresh (CTRL-F5), as it sounds like it could well be an IE caching issue.
If you get a data transfer problem (or create one by clicking the stop button) IE can end up missing part of a file and so the page doesn't render correctly.
Sometimes when this happens, even with "check for updates" set to "every visit" IE gets confused and keeps showing the incomplete page.

Talking to our Windows expert, Microsoft released a critical IE security update last week. We have a process that pushes updates out to all PC's, but doesn't force a reboot since in a 24 hour shop, you never know when a workstation is in use.
They seem to feel this is a side effect from the IE patch, and that the reboot is the solution. Will continue to monitor; if that is the case, one would expect in a week or two that this problem would abate.

Of course, it is DOS, reboots always fix it
