Add an attachment to a document (not a workflow!)

I'm using DFC to perform some simple operation i.e. import files, get all revision of a file, etc...I'd like to add an attachment to a file, but the only information I can find is adding an attachment to a workflow. There has got to be a way to simply add an attachment to a document. Can anyone point me an example of how to do this?

First of all, what do you want to achieve by attaching one document to another? I am asking this, because there are many ways to implement it.

You can add an attribute which stores the id of another document, you could connect the two documents with a relation or you could build a virtual document.

Assuming that your custom type (which represent the document, to which one can add attachments) has a repeating id attribute named attachment_ids, which stores the list of document attachments, the code will look as follows:
