Keeping focus on current task
briggek8717
Is there a way to make TeamSite keep the focus on the task that a user just approved? For instance, our users may have 10 tasks in their list of active tasks on the Workflow tab. Let's say they want to approve the task that is 4th down on the list to move to our pre-production environment. That works fine, but when TeamSite refreshes after the approval button is hit, the highlighted task is not the one that they were just working on, it is the one at the top of the list. Is there a way to set up TeamSite so that it stays on the current task?
Let me know if this doesn't make sense. We're using 6.1 on a Win2K3 platform.

What do you have set for the task view?
My Open Tasks
My Complete and Retrievable Tasks
Unassigned Group Tasks
All Tasks
My Tasks Pending Action
Unless you're viewing
All Tasks
or possibly
My Complete and Retrievable Tasks
, it doesn't really make sense to keep the previously transitioned task highlighted (IMO, and apparently in IWOV's opinion too) - but having
All Tasks
selected is a bit of a burden on the individual because there could be hundreds, even thousands of tasks in the system (although using filters and/or sorting columns could help alleviate that a bit) - so probably
My Complete and Retrievable Tasks
would be a better selection, unless the subsequent task is an externaltask or some other automated task from which you wouldn't be able to retrieve control...
Or am I missing your point?

Adam,
I think the user wants to ask whether we can control the default selection under the workflow tab. As by default it automatically gets selected to the first job/task, no matter on which head it is sorted.
As far as my reply to the query is concerned: we can not modify that unless and until we hack the jsp and thats not the right way to do. Please confirm back if i am wrong somewhere in understanding.
NOTE: In version 6.5, whatever task was selected last, would be focussed after refreshing the window.
Thanks,

They typically have My Open Tasks selected. It only becomes an issue when they want to transition something from pre-production and then directly to production after that. My users are kind of spoiled in that some of them have the option to e-deploy (automatically deploy file(s) without using the workflow). So, what they will do a lot of the time is make their change, e-deploy it so they can view it immediately, and then when everything looks good, they will create a task for it to send it through the "proper" channels.
They are a bit lazy and don't want to create the task, promote it, send it back to rework it, promote it again, etc. They want to just make their change and test it. I'm sure it is our fault for giving them the capability to e-deploy (although that was before my time here), but they have that option.
Where they run into the issue is when they just want to move this code through the workflow quickly and it is like the 4th one down the list. They approve it (to pre-prod), and then go to approve it again (to prod), but when it refreshes after the first approval, it points to the top one on the list, and they can sometimes approve something that they didn't want to if they aren't paying attention.
We are moving to 6.5 in the very near future. If it works there, I'll just tell them that.

Well, we just moved to 6.5 SP2 on Win2K3, and this issue wasn't resolved.
Whenever a user transitions a task from one status to the next (whether it be approving it to the next environment or sending it back a step) the focus is always reset to the top item in the list of however they have it sorted, rather than staying on the one they just approved/disapproved. This can lead to them inadvertantly submitting something that they didn't mean to if they are not paying attention. However, the focus does remain on the last selected task if you move from the Workflow tab to the Content tab and back again to Workflow.
Anyone know of a way to keep the focus on the task that just had some sort of action applied to it by the user instead of return the focus to the first item in the list?

What do you have set for the task view? viewed, if you select a task and transition it, if the task does not stay selected - I'd file that as a bug with IWOV Support.
