ACS and NON-Distributed Environment

Hi,

By default when we install content server, the ACS server also gets installed. In a simple scenario where I have one content server with one docbase configured, do we really require an ACS server to be configured in the environment?

If Yes, what is the significance of having the ACS server on an single server/single docbase environment. Are there any performance influences having an ACS.? Will the UCF content transfer performance be influenced having a ACS?

If No, how to disable to ACS server.

The acs config object has a disable option. Its last item in a 3 item drop down.

If you disable ACS then files have to be served to users via your web server.

ACS only works with UCF and the D7 REST..... I think.

ACS doesn't hurt the performance of your Content Server. In the other hand, if you are building a web/mobile application, you'll find it powerful to use ACS. ACS provides the HTTP based content stream download from end to end where you can leverage the HTTP advantages, i.e.., streaming, client caching, etc. From system perspective, it also performs better since the client downloads the content stream (especially for large content) from the Content Server data store to the end user machine directly. There is no overhead of transferring the content stream through a middleware node (web server, dfs server, etc.).

UCF provides some more features like compression, async download/upload, failover, etc. But it brings the client side deployment & runtime dependencies in the same time.
