Client 8 rollout flag....
Ben_inform
Hi,
as part of a global worksite client migration from iManage client 6.x to WorkSite client 8.0 we need to be able to , at document upload time, flag in the database if the client that uploaded the document was c8 or pre-c8. The reason is that we have a legacy trigger that is fired on all docmaster updates to set document security according to c1 and c2 values in the profile (dont ask- long story) . Fortunately, with Client 8 the trigger is now redundant because the folder/workspace now sets document security.
Given that during the 6 month migration process we'll have (logically) one v8 database and a mix of c8 and pre-c8 clients. I thought i could distribute a set of NRS scripts to one set of clients (whichever is logistically easier) and have those clients flag the docmaster CBOOLX to true. That way on docmaster insert the trigger can check the CBOOLX flag to decide if it needs to modify security or not.
Beyond the usual "triggers are not recommended" story (which is great if you have other solutions), can anyone see a problem with this OR is there a better, more implicit way to detect from the database if the client that uploaded was C8 or a prior version?
thanks
Ben.

Another way I could think of is to look for this key in the local machine:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Interwoven]
"MailSite Version"=8.0
"DeskSite Version"=8.0
If the machine is installed with pre-8, the key would be:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\iManage, Inc.\iManage DeskSite\Version]
"Version"=6.5
Although this may not be a sure thing as you may have stale keys left from a previous version.
Or, you may get a handle to the configurationdata collection off of the session object to look for the version of the imanage.dll that is being used:
Dim odms, osess, sVersion
Set odms = Context("NRTDMS")
Set osess = odms.Sessions.Item(1)
sVersion = osess.ConfigurationData.Item("Version").Value
Please note that NRTDMS contextitem may not be available when in Office Integration.
