Java program calling from workflow

Can we call a java file from workflow .Previously i hv used to call an ipl file from workflow and on ipl file
i am executing a batch file.
Now i want something like that on workflow ..

You can run anything from an external task command element.

I have created Java external task, so guess there is some issue specific to your environment.

Sorry, I don't have an example to hand.
Do you have the Workflow developers manual and the CSSDK doc bundle?
They should contain all of the information you need.

In your post you have:

$test_command="c:\\Java\\jdk1.5.0_04\\bin\\java.exe c:\\javacall\\Hello";

Which doesn't look right - does it work from the command line?
shouldn't it be:

c:\java\jdk1.5.0_04\bin\java.exe -classpath c:\javacall Hello

Where Hello is a class file in c:\javacall with a public static void main(String[] args) method

Also, would advise using java in iw-home\tools\java (to reduce installation of software on TS servers).

I don't want to sound rude, but have you actually done any IWOV workflow training, or read through the manuals and worked with the examples?
In your attached WFT you have two very big issues.

1. You are using a usertask element instead of an externaltask.
2. The command that you wish to execute needs to go in the v attribute of a command element (see below). TS will automatically supply the Job and Task ID as parameters which you will need to transition the task.

Have u seen my very first post for the same query.I hv used the similar code as u sent me.
But it was not working. Thats why i have used <template_script> tag.
Now it is working.Thats why i hv asked in last post that is it correct way of using <template_script> is or not?
I am aslo strongly supposed to use external task with <command> .
But as i was not getting that in running.
Let me again chk if i hv missed something.

The code in the template script element will be executed as soon as a workflow is created.
It doesn't matter where it is in the WFT file.

Using the template script method you have will result in an email being sent as soon as your user submits a file, or starts a new job (or any other way you might initiate a workflow).

I guess what you want is for a user to be notified when a task requires their action or some event has occurred. If this is the case then you will need an external task using a command element.
1. So the command is executed when the task is active.
2. So you have a Job and task ID so you can email details of the job.

You may want to look at iw-home\local\config\wft\solutions\iw_solution_email.ipl.
This is an external task supplied with TeamSite that will send email to a user containing details of a task that requires their attention.

On my workflow i hv an external task ,in external task i am calling a java program.
to this program i am passing a file for attachment .When this file is in c: drive then it is working fine.But when it is from y: drive then it is not working.

There is no reason you can't pass a file under iw mount as a parameter.

Can you explain what is not working? What is your java code trying to do with the parameter and how does it fail?

The immediate thing that comes to mind is permissions as the command element of an external task and a template script element may be run as different users.

HI Darren,

Using <command> i am executing a java program,which is used for mailing with an attachment of file.
Here $pathOfFile is the file which is attached with the mail.
If $pathOfFile contains path of c: drive then my program is able to attach that file but when from y: directory then not able to do that.
How cud i make <command> also working for y: drive also.

The only reason of failure may be the file u r trying to attach is TeamSite's file .......

errr, I think that y: in this case is the backing store, so you won't be able to create that path.

As I said before my initial guess is permissions.
Look at the priveleges on "y:/default/main/ABC/WORKAREA/workarea/templatedata/webpages/Fullpage/datacapture.cfg";
Then have your java program log the user that it is running as.

I am able to create ,read... the file from y: drive using java program, only at the time of mail attachment it is not working.
I hv cheked the logs but no information i hv found there.
I hv tested my java program even from cmd ,it is working fine from there.
Any thought ,any suggestions r requested.

Did you read my last message? The user that you run your command code as from the command line is most likely different from the user that TeamSite executes the workflow task as. try logging the user that the java prog is running as using System Properties. Ensure this user has permission for the appropriate TeamSite branch.

You would help to help yourself if you explained what you were doing a lot more clearly and posted your code and logfiles.
