How can D2 4.2 support SSO through integration with some portal

Can D2 4.2 still work under the following url?

http /server:port/D2-Client/?_docbase=<docbaseName>&_username=<userName>&_password=<passWord>

There is this customer who doesn't have any LDAP products and is using some other systems to manage user and passwords. And they have a portal that they would like to do SSO with D2. Partner has examined D2 loginpage and found it is not easy to tweak to accept some parameter and use javascript to auto-click the submit button. Any ideas about this ? Thanks
