Quick way to download documents

Hello

I am working on a task to download last 12 months documents [its going to be huge volume] to a file system, this is to create a Document Offline storage. This process is going to run on daily basis. I cant rely on regular getFile API, looking for something more quick and efficient. Kindly could someone please give some suggestions on to fast way to download the documents from Documentum? Currently we are using 6.5 content servers, will move to 7.1 next month.
