Documentum tool for PDF Template generation

Hello All,

Someone can suggest on following ?

Couple of hundred different PDF templates containing different data on their products, this has never been standardized into any template.

Decide set of standard templates around 4 to 5, that they will implement throughout the client.

These 6 templates will be built upon a set of digital datablocks (for example – a datablock that always contain header information, one block that contains product data etc) and these different blocks are then to be implemented into documentum.

When these blocks have been implemented into documentum it should be possible to “build” different product Leaflets by combining the different blocks in various ways.

Which editor can be used to generate such data blocks and PDF and Integrate with Documentum ?

It depends on your source. If you're using XML for authoring, you'll need an XML authoring tool and publishing pipeline. If you're using Microsoft Office, D2 Advanced Publishing may be all you need. For other sources (e.g. CAD) other tools may be required.

It's beyond the scope of this forum (and my knowledge) to give you a definitive recommendation. I suggest that you discuss your requirements with an EMC Sales Engineer or a Documentum partner.

D2 Advanced Publishing Services may be exactly what you need.

There are a few other ways to approach this problem. You can manage the renditions in an authoring tool (usually XML), via server side PDF generation, or a combination.

Generate PDF's from suggested / 3rd party tool and import into repository , convert to virtual document and for publishing use power of D2 Advanced Publishing services ?

Thank you Jerry this much is enough for me. Appriciate a lot your help and direction / pointers.

I found in trail version section for as a addtional pack. Also this for D2 3.1 version.. I believe latest D2 is 4.2 and is this something i have in trail so I do not have full access of latest version ?

If this package is part of 3.1 only, I will have to use D2 of 3.1 only ? I do not find that mapping which we normally have with System requirement guides for 6.x / 7.X etc.. what products of 6.7 supported with 7.1 For e.g. 6.7 SP2 ADTS supported with CS 7.1. something similar in D2, do we have such guide ?

One more question... now instead of Page in PDF document, I say reusable component is paragraph and need to publish as paragraph.. not a document.. form final web page. with multiple reusable content / paragraph.. is this something through Web Publisher ?

Hello ,

May be you should try to download a Documentum developer edition box and then install the latest version of D2 (the 4.2). Then install D2 Advanced Publishing and you will have a full access to functionnalities.

If you don't have access to the download section consider asking your sales rep or a good EMC partner. I f you need extra information, don't hesitate
