set ea by script problem

System

I need to set eas on 1600 files but don't know the replicant position for each file. one file may require iweatattr command to set replicantcategory/0/attr=value1

and the next file may need to set the attribute in replicant position 2..... It would be nice for this command line utility to append the attribute to the end of the replicant list. Is this possible?

This sounds like something you're going to have to script, but most of the time, scripting this is a very quick thing. Could you provide more background information on what you're trying to do? I feel like you and I started a conversation in the middle somewhere.

Explain how you're getting your list of 1600 files and where you're getting the EA's from (or if they're all the same).

i was hoping to use the following script:
iwextattr -s $filepath TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/1/ATTRIBUTE_NAME=DOCUMENT_CLASS
iwextattr -s $filepath TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/1/ATTRIBUTE_VALUE=TECH_UNIT

And have my script loop through all files in the folder passing the arg $filepath to my script.

But the DOC_ATTRIBUTES tag is a replicant and I don't have the ability to append the tag to the end.... I have to first use the script to out put all eas, reformulate the file as a iwextattr -s script and re-run it. Its a lot of work for me.

resulting scipt would be
iwextattr -s file1.pdf TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/1/ATTRIBUTE_NAME=DOCUMENT_CLASS
iwextattr -s file1.pdf TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/1/ATTRIBUTE_VALUE=TECH_UNIT
iwextattr -s file2.pdf TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/3/ATTRIBUTE_NAME=DOCUMENT_CLASS
iwextattr -s file2.pdf TeamSite/Metadata/DOC_ATTRIBUTES/3/ATTRIBUTE_VALUE=TECH_UNIT

In the above example file one only has one DOC_ATTRIBUTE replicant so I add to position 1
file2 has 3 so I add to position 3 [replicants indexing begins with 0]

haven't tested the code below, but i guess you want to do something like this against each file.
$count should contain the number of attribs matching your pattern.
$max should contain the highest attrib number on the file.
Inserting a new attribute is fairly straight forward, but think whether you'll need to delete and re-number at any point (this is where these kind of things get messy).

my $count = 0;
my $max = 0;

my @attribs = split(/\n/, `$iwHome/bin/iwextattr -l $file`);

foreach my $attrib (@attribs) {
 if($attrib =~ m|replicantcategory/(\d+)/attr|) {
  if($1 > $max) { $max = $1; }
  $count++;
 }
}

thanks... i appreciate the suggestion but i don't have time to test and debug a custom script because i am not very proficient with perl scripting.

So how do you plan to loop through all files in a folder?
A batch or shell script? (are you on windows or solaris).

ok.... i'll commit but i need help. please look at this script so far: I don't know how to loop through files but that should be the top loop for this script section.

my $appendEAReplicant = 'TeamSite/Metadata/BHI_DOC_ATTRIBUTES';
my $appendEAName = 'DOCUMENT_CLASS';
my $appendEAValue = 'TECH_UNIT';
my $count = 0;
my $max = 0;
my @attribs = split(/\n/, `$iwHome/bin/iwextattr -l $file`);

foreach my $attrib (@attribs)
{ if($attrib =~ m|appendEAReplicant/(\d+)/attr|)
{
if($1 > $max) { $max = $1; }
$count++;
}

outtofile 'iwextattr -s $file $appendEAReplicant/$max/$appendEAName=$appendEAValue';
}

So, do I understand correctly that you're asking for someone to do your work for you? That's a very unpopular thing to do on this board, just FYI. You don't have time to put this together, yet it's been an hour since you posted your issue initially. I don't understand.

You'll need to write a script for this... there is not any existing utility out of the box that will do this for you.

Sorry mate, we are here to help if you get stuck or have an issue to get over. I doubt many people will be willing to teach you Perl.
I suggest either a training course or not working with TeamSite.

Thanks.

Darren.
