where does metadata get deployed to?
xlhAlex
Hi,
I am new to TeamSite and OpenDeploy, so forgive me if this seems too basic.
I need some confimation on metadata and extended attributes. To clarify, to me metadata IS extended attributes of a file.
When a file is deployed, where do the EAs go? Can we have them deployed with the file or do they have to go into a database? If they have to go to a database, how hard is it to retrieve these values from the application server for the site to consume? I imagine that the site search would need to read the EAs (in addition to other stuff) to search documents within the site.
Should some metadata be added to the DCR and then be referenced in the tpl so that they are added to the <meta> tag in the generated file? Then the application can read them directly from the generated file? This brings security concerns to me since I don’t want users to view source and see any confidential metadata.
As you can see, I am confused by this. Could you please clear this up for me and/or point me in the direction of some documentation on this.
Thanks,

Metadata is a specific type of extended attribute (EA). Metadata is any EA that starts with TeamSite/Metadata. Usually, metadat is set through the GUI using the "tag" feature.

It depends how you configure OD. Metadata can be dumped to an XML file or sent into a database. Since you can define the schema for the metadata, retrieval is based upon how you code the app server logic.
