Inheriting folder metadata for assets
Hiral
We have huge ammount of assets to insert into our folder hierchy that we set up. We are going to have metadata set for the folder. what we would like to make sure is that when the asset is inserted from windows or web client in mediabin, that asset should inherit folder metadata. Is there a way to accomplish this?
We have option while we create sub folder that asks us whether we would like to inherit metadata of the parent folder or not. but we would like the same option when we try to insert the asset which can ask us if we want to inherit parent folder metadata for that asset. Is there a way we can achieve this?
Please respond in timely manner since we are going to take a huge project if this can be worked out.
Thank You,
Hiral Kanaiya

The exact feature you described has been discussed but unfortunately has not currently been implemented. However, one can accomplish much of what is discussed by means of an ingest script. Basically the script would read the folder metadata and then use the result as a runtime parameter to a metadata adder insertion task used on ingest.
I can try to get you in touch with our experts in script writing to help accomplish this.

Thanks for your reply.
When you say "ingest a script", is there a script already out there that we can use? or are you actually talking about us developing an additional script that will read the folder metadata and assign that to assets?
We really wanted to use this with minimum amount of programming if possible.
If you can get me in touch with script writing person that will definately help.
thanks,
