Alternative to xCP

Hi,

We want to upgrade an application from Documentum 6.7 to 7.1. The application is currently a Taskpace app, so we will have to rewrite at least a portion of it. Our intent is to upgrade the existing backend process, and redesign the front end/form. Besides a rewrite in xCP, are there any alternative applications that will function with a rather complex process? Is SharePoint a viable option?

It is possible but I dont see any business case.. Integrating front end with other applications is too difficult to make it work exact like taskspace application. Also it is not cost effective as it involves lot of customizations.

If you still want to explore, you can check out MyDocumentum for Sharepoint (Name might have changed) which can be your front end. This also has SDK.

Another way could also be to use xCP as the back end, Documentum Rest to interrogate your back end and use your existing front end application such as portals or web site.

MyDocumentum for SharePoint, or its rename, EMC Documentum connector for MS SharePoint provide OOTB web parts, which are primarily document management centric. Although there is an Inbox web part, I am afraid the connector is not meant to be a replacement of the Taskspace user interface. I believe you are better off staying with the total xCP package. If xCP 2 is too big for your BPM or transactional content management needs, consider moving to another (lighter) technology.

How did you decide to go about this anyway? Just out of curiosity (didn't notice the thread until now)...
