I have a bunch of pdf's and images that my client wants tagged with specific values. This is easily done with iwextattr. The issue(not really an issue I guess) is that the scripts that deploy the images ,metadata, etc, use the subjectmetadata field. When you tag through the tagger gui/utilizing metatagger, the subjectmetadata field gets populated automatically. I tried populating the fields with the iwextattr CLT, and then running iwmtbatch in hopes of this happening, but no such luck. I can manually tag a file and just hit save on the already popluated fields, and then the subject metadata is created the way it should be. My other option would be to programmatically create the subject metadata field as well, which wouldn't be too bad ,but isn't this what the iwmtbatch is for?

Kelley-
I am not certain I completely understand your question.
iwmtbatch is a command line tool that is run on the TeamSite server against documents in TeamSite to invoke MetaTagger. What it does is to invoke MetaTagger on each of the documents listed in the batch.cfg file either to populate a single field or all fields. Now, if the documents have never been tagged before this works like a charm - documents are tagged and you are done.
If the document metadata has been entered before - by MetaTagger or by hand, we have seen instances where iwmtbatch does not update the metadata on the file. You can use iwextattr to remove all metadata from the file and then reapply it with iwmtbatch. This will clear up the issue if this is what you are experiencing.
But is sounds like you have a different issue.
There are 4 ways to apply metadata in TeamSite:
1. Use the Tagger GUI and MetaTagger to automatically enter the data (you can then manually edit).
2. Use the Tagger GUI, without MetaTagger to manually enter data on all fields
3. iwextattrib to modify a specific field with a specific value - Metatagger is NOT invoked.
4. iwmtbatch to invoke MetaTagger to write metadata to the EAs.
Page 108 of the Command Line Reference Tools for Solaris outlines in detail iwextattr.
Page 107 of the MetaTagger Advanced Users Guide outlines in detail iwmtbatch.
