Bookmarks and View as HTML

Hi all

I have a request here to have the ability to link to a bookmark within a profiled document using the HTML view. The following works when

i.e. http://<<our server>/WorkSite/scripts/viewDoc.aspx?nrtid=!nrtdms:0:!session:<<Session>>:!database:<<DB>>:!document:3008558,1:&ishtml=1&command=ok#100005D

The problem I have is that when a document is converted using the viewDoc.aspx file the bookmarks are renamed to a hexadecimal number but I cannot see how this is done. I can link to the generated number without problems as this link is from a connector then we do not have any problems of worksite being available. We are trying to remove this from a space on the server into Worksite so all of our documentationis inside of worksite. If there is a rule of how all the name tags in the HTML view are generated I could use a lookup table to sort this out.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Mike - Do you have any sample of this? Do you the hyperlinks inside th converted documents are hexadecimals?

From your post, here's what I understand to be the problem:

Inside your HTML file, you have a bookmark like <a name="test">This is my bookmark</a>. When you use viewDoc to view as HTML (you pass isHtml=1 to ViewDoc), the bookmark in the resulting file looks something like this: <a name="10003D"></a>This is my bookmark. At least, that's what I saw when I tried this myself.

If your profiled content has the Type field set properly to HTML, you don't need to pass isHtml=1 to ViewDoc. The reason being that when the file is fetched on the server, we see the type is set to HTML, so we set the document extension accordingly. Your browser then knows how to open a file of type *.htm and *.html.

I have found that the following call to ViewDoc opens my HTML file at the specified bookmark:
http://localhost/worksite/scripts/viewDoc.aspx?nrtid=<some_moniker>&command=ok#test

The isHtml parameter is used to indicate that we need to use 3rd party DLLs to convert non-HTML documents to HTML format. You can view the supported file extensions by looking at a constant called KHTMLViewExtensions of the Utility object located in iManage.WorkSite.Web.dll.

Thanks for you replies so far.

The problem is that the profiled document is a word document and I need to display it as an HTML document and have the capability of moving to any of the defined bookmarks within the word document. We cannot use the word documents directly because of security restictions. The problem is that in the conversion the bookmarks are converted to hexadecimal like <a name="1000005D"> from a Bookmark LegalFramework in Word. But there does not seem to be way of finding out what the conversion will be. If I put a reference to #100005D it works but I need to allow the content creators to use the bookmark name so that once the main document has been edited the hyperlinks between the documents will be OK and won't have to be rechecked and edited.

I would be happy to write a word macro that has to be run to create a lookup table to show what the bookmark would be converted to and then write my own wrapper file which would perform the conversion and then call the viewDoc.aspx file.

For non-HTML files, this appears to be a bug. Please initiate a call to Tech Support to log this so that it gets reviewed by R&D. I have not found any rhyme or reason for the bookmark title conversion.

I've posted up further details on the problem in the forum. The main problem boils down to trying to link the bookmark name in word to the name tag that appears when the document is viewed as HTML from worksite. Do you know anything about how the HTML view is generated from word?

The html conversion is done using Proprietary filters - I will try and find out if there is any know issues there.. Meanwhile just wondering what is that you are trying to do ? May be there is workaround.
