Restricting Access to a Directory

Hi,

We had a recent problem where a web producer decided to modify a tpl and created an infinity loop that took down our server. All producers and developers have editor access but we want to restrict access to the (any directory with the word 'presentation') template directories to only the programmers.

We are running TS 5.5 on a Windows 2000 server. The problem is we break workflows if we change permissions to the directories.

Any ideas?

The best possible way i can think off is to create separate windows group for producers and programmers and manually give permission to only programmers group for the particular directories whichever needs to be restricted.

The only set back in this step is you have to restirct each and every other directory for which you have to authorise programmers only. For further clarification just click check on any directory in Teamsite and check its properties, you would understand what i am trying to explain.

Not able to try this, but what about marking the files as private, or explicitly locking them as a specific user?

If you mark the files as private - then they generally aren't available for submission when modified - probably not what you want.

You can change the access rights on the pre-existing presentation directories and their contents, and then add an entry in the submit.cfg to set it correctly for any newly created presentation directories and PTs -- this would probably be the best way to restrict such access.

Of course - even if restricted - if someone who has authority to modify the PTs does so - there's still a chance they'll create a similar problem. Aside from testing on a DEV server, not sure what you can do about that.
