We have two situations where we need to changes files that are in staging but leave the modified files in our workareas. I'll try to map out what we've tried and what we need to happen and hope someone has a good solutions for us.
Situation: We're changing out navigation path from /
@staticNav to /globalNav, so we need to change all the content links and dct's to have the proper paths. We can do a find and replace to change all the paths, this is not the problem. We need to get all these changes into staging without sending any work in progress files to staging.
One solution: Use teamsites copy to functionality and move all the content from one WA to a clean WA. In our workarea we do a get lastest so the WA matches staging. Do a find and replace and restage all the content. Now our staging is up to date. Next we've copy our content back from the workarea that we previously copied it to. Do a find and replace again to change the links in the workarea and submit all the files that are not work in progress. Here's our problem, later when were try to workflow our work in progress we have conflicts every time because the version in staging is new than the version in the workarea. any way around this? another solution to our problem?
Second situation that's quite similar: We are changing file permsission on all the files in every workarea. We need staging to contain the proper permissions for all files so when we do Get Latests in other WA the permissions are all set correct.
Solution: we do almost the same thing as above but instead of a find and replace we are replacing security settings. We still end up with workflow conflicts on all work in process pages.
Please let me know if anyone else has a work around for this because we have way too many files to have to deal with workflow conflicts!
