CS 7.1.Oracle : DQL issue with WHERE ''=object_name

What a defect :

CS-50865 (DQL condition '' = 'xyz' always true in Oracle).

select count(object_name) from dm_document where object_name=''

=> returns 0

select count(object_name) from dm_document where ''=object_name

=> returns the total number of dm_document objects

Here are the generated SQL.

1. select all count(dm_document.object_name) from dm_document_sp dm_document where ((dm_document.object_name='')) and (dm_document.i_has_folder = 1 and dm_document.i_is_deleted = 0)

2. select all count(dm_document.object_name) from dm_document_sp dm_document where ((''=dm_document.object_name OR '' IS NULL)) and (dm_document.i_has_folder = 1 and dm_document.i_is_deleted = 0)

It will normally be fixed in 7.1.0200.Oracle

amusingly, how did you find that? neither object_name='' nor ''=object_name is correct from Oracle perspective.

Hi,

I've found that completely by accident, playing with D2 Queryforms and twisted DQL clauses that had to manage complex criteria.

Can you explain what is not correct from Oracle perspective when using my_attribute='' ?

DQL generates such SQL and seems to work fine.

boolean algebra in Oracle for NULLs is:

NULL is NULL - true
NULL is not NULL - false
NULL = NULL - NULL
NULL != NULL - NULL

'' - is NULL, so object_name='' does not make sense
