Overridding 'dcr' object

Hi all ,

I am using TS 6.1 on Win 2000 SP4

Following is the Category Structure on my teamsite server

I want to call 'child.tpl' from 'parent.tpl' . I want to preview 'child.tpl' independently also & want to use include 'child.tpl' in 'parent.tpl' also .

Now i want to include this 'child.tpl' in 'parent.tpl' also . In parent_service DCT I have a BROWSE item which browses to 'child_service DCR'.

Now I want that in child.tpl SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED ......& want to values in child DCR select in parent DCT to be populated through child.tpl

- previewing the child TPL through parent TPL

Can we make ' p <>Normally 'dcr' in child.tpl points to any Child DCR selected through CC while previewing .

Is it possible to change the DCR pointer of 'dcr' from default selection in CC to any desired DCR .

Geez, I'm sorry about that. I admit I don't usually look back to see if my post was messed up (as was in this case). I miss the old platform of DevNet how you could insert tags freely and they would render properly.

I want to preview DCRs from content center using child.tpl & also i want to use the same child.tpl in parent.tpl

When i want to call child.tpl from parent , i will be passing the path of Child DCR selected in Parent DCT .
If i want to preview any DCRs ( have two item i.e, page title & page intro ) from content center
then code for child.tpl will be

[/HTML]

If i want to call same child.tpl from parent.tpl ( parent.tpl is passing DCR to child.tpl ) then code for child.tpl is
[HTML]

[/HTML]

So i have to maintain two codes for child.tpl
Is there a way to have only one child.tpl code which will address to both the situation ?

then the code is

Now if i want to pass the child DCR from parent.tpl then i would modify child.tpl as

Is there any way by which I can make 'dcr' pointer in CODE 1 point to whatever DCR i have passed through parent.tpl ?

Is there any way to have a common code for acheving both the objectives i.e, 1. previewing the dcr using child.tpl independently 2. access child.tpl from parent.tpl

Seriously, bud... you need to preview something like that before posting it. Like I said, I've done this myself and I think it sucks that when you put something between hard-bracketed CODE tags, it STILL parses the < > tags as HTML but hey.

First of all, I feel your pain. BELIEVE ME, I DO!!

I reread your inital post and I'm still not quite sure what you're trying to do but I'll make a guess :-) if you're trying to parse a given DCR within a PT but using a different PT, I believe you can do this with TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

Tparser -- I'm not sure if there's an easier way, however.

I'm likely way off with what you're looking for so if you could explain, that would be good.

You could also try to attach your code as a zip file instead of pasting it directly.

You didn't actually attach your code. Anyway, declare both of these tpl's in templating.cfg. Parent.tpl should be straight-forward except for the fact that you would need to parse child.tpl in a separate statement (perhaps based on a DCR field?) TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

Tparser may serve you well for this. If this is your method, child.tpl should be written generic enough to be able to accept its arguments from the actual parser that generates pages the traditional way OR from however you decide to call it from parent.tpl. I believe that if you use PTparser.pm, child.tpl can be made to be ignorant of parent.tpl ever calling it, so this would not be an issue.
