I need to provide an additional drop down menu item which is enabled for a few particular users.

Using the roles_custom.xml we can configure the functionality for a particular role. Is there an option of configuring the functionality for a particular user?

Has any one tried configuring such a thing?

kindly throw some light on the best approach for such a scenario

You have already mentioned yourself about the configuration of menu items as per role. The answer to functionality as per user is 'No'.

You have not mentioned your working env. but still if you are using TS6.7 then it can be achieved quite easily else you can provide a menu item as "Admin Tasks" to a defined role and open up a CGI file checking the credentials of that user with all the processes s/he can proceed with.
