How to setup dev environment for Documentum??

Hi There,

EMC Documentum is fairly new to me so I am trying to learn its internal.

For having a better understanding, I was trying to setup the dev environment.I am using developer image based on Centos Virtual Box image.

I was going through the BOF and trying to play around the code. Now, my first query is - Is Composer required to install/deploy jar files in Documentum? Cannot we do that with eclipse IDE without using Composer?

2ndly, I just wanted to know the steps to setup a simple dev environment. I want to write a test plug-in for Documentum.

Can someone please assist me in this regard?

Yes, Composer is required to deploy applications containing object definitions, ACLs, BOF modules, workflows, etc. to Documentum. Some of those things can be achieved using DA, DQL, and other assorted tools, but Composer is the tool of choice.

As for developing a plug-in, that isn't terminology used by Documentum so I'm not certain what you are trying to achieve. Here are several tutorials that might help you along in addition to the Documentum developer documentation available from EMC.

In that case, can you please let me know from where I can download Composer? I am not able to find any reference where I can download it. I have spend almost half day to find some link where I can download it.

As I have stated before, I am in learning mode so there is no particular use case on which I am working. However, I was trying to show some message on Checking in and Checking out a document from a folder in Cabinet.

Its kind of a "Hello World" program. I have generated some .jar files but not able to deploy that in Documentum because its JAR definition cannot be created in the absence of Composer.

Check the slide no.21 which says that with Plug-in approach is appropriate as it can start with a simple program and it can easily grow as and when required. Deployment is easy and it is cost effective. Please let me know if I am looking in the right direction,
