Is there a direct way to find out if a file is modified in any workarea on a branch?

From the command line, it is possible to go through each workarea and then do a iwlistmod on the partent directory of the file, and parse through that to see if the specific file appears. Is there a simpler way?

I am not aware of a command line tool that will check all workareas.

You could use iwcmp for the specific file but you would need to do that for each workarea.

Example:

iwcmp /default/main/acme/STAGING/test.html /default/main/acme/WORKAREA/work01/test.html
f f+ test.html

The output is described in the TeamSite command line tools manual.

iwfilestate would be the better option to check the status of any given file. Also as per your requirement there is no such command which checks out for each and every workarea ina branch.

To resolve your issue... i suggest to use a cron job.

iwlistmod is the best approach. Do it at a WA level and it will tell you what is modified at that level.

One caveat. If you create a DIR1, and 10 files underneath, only the DIR will show as modified.

I think Jeremy has aksed for file level modification checking. iwlistmod would definitely be best for WA level... but as for a particular file... good option you have is iwfilestate. Smiley Happy

got it, I misread the first post, thinking he wanted to know a list of
all files in mulitple WAs that were modified
