The client I am working with would like to see searches place more relevance on object_name than the content of the files, is there anyway to tune xPlore to return object_name matches higher up the results list?

You can "boost" specific attributes so that xplore calculates higher scores for relevancy. Look in the xplore admin guide for details.
To help you out a little more, this is documented in "Configuring scoring and freshness" at page 218 in the Documentum xPlore 1.5 Administration and Development Guide
