Looking for a Documentum archiving tool

Hi All - We are ready to start archiving our 4+ TB of content into a separate system which will host this data for users who need old data. The idea is to have only 1 year of data available in the production system. The intention is to benefit in the following ways :

1. Performance improvement - for search, retrieval and viewing of production content

2. Save on expensive storage - archival data will be stored in tier 2 level cheaper storage

We have looked at tools such as :

1. Info Archive (by EMC) - This only copies qualified data but does not "move" it from the production (i.e. delete data from content store and DB synchronously and ensure integrity before deletion). EMC says we need to write a separate code for that

2. FME migration center - Again the same issue ... this only copies not moves. they were willing to write the delete plugin for extra cost.

Neither of them address full text data that we are storing. It seems like we will need to re-index all the data once we migrate.

I wanted to ask other community members to chip in and let me know if this is really a "unique" requirement as our vendors state (i.e. moving data vs copying) if not what other tools / choices do I have for this need ?

So you can actually do this using Documentums Retention Policy Services (RPS).  What you desire is in essence similar to records disposition.  With RPS you can define retention policy (for 1 yr), after which disposition can occur.  You can configure disposition to delete the document in the repository AND move file to file location (tier 2 storage).  Once you delete the objects, the Index Server will remove it as part of the regular indexing process.
