Hi,

I need to write a regex to check '.html', '.asp' etc

Eg : Say my iw_file is \test1\test2\abcd.html

I want to write a regex to extract '.html' from the iw_file.

A quick reply is highly appreciated.

You really should pick up a book or learn to search the web - this is such a basic question it indicates you haven't really tried.

If you have tried - please show what you tried - then you're more likely to get a response to correct your code - but you really should make the effort yourself first.

Below code would check for any file which has jsp as extension.

$currentFile =~ m/(.*\.jsp)$/

And this code can be used for checking multiple file extensions.

$currentFile =~ m/(.*\.(gif|html))$/

or, a little different

$currentFile =~ m/\.(gif|html?)$/i;

the i at the end makes it case-insensitive so it'll match html and HTML. The '?' after html will match htm and html. The final '$' sign tells it to search the end of the line. This is a simple start but you really should read up on regexs. They're useful in more places than just Perl.

Of course, if you wanted to actually capture the file extension, you could do something like this:

my $filePath = '/blah/blah/blah/blah/blah.blah';
my ($fileExtension) = ($filePath =~ m|\.([^\.]+)$|);

All of these you would easily be able to do on your own if you spent 5 minutes on google...
