Since we're being forced to upgrade soon from 5.5.2, I've been checking how long this process is actually going to take. According to the documentation, DCTs need to be updated in going from 5.5 to 6.x, but I haven't found any unified documentation on what the changes are. The 'Upgrade Package' documentation seems fairly useless in this respect. The site search is also not turning up much useful information. We've got 26 DCTs to migrate (and another project ~40) so this is obviously going to be a concern. I'm sure a lot of you have already made the jump, so any comments would be welcome.
There are performance improvements with the 6.5 backing store that I would recommend you take advantage of, but this requires that you use iwmigrate to copy your content. Depending on how much content you are moving, this could also be time consuming. It is not a requirement for the upgrade, though, so if it is an issue, you can postpone it.
So you're saying we missed out on those improvements because we didn't start with a clean 6.5 store? Can you point me to any documentation or devnet discussion about that?
(...) when you attempt to use a backing store from TeamSite 5.5, 6.0, or 6.1 without migrating the store to the new format (you) may encounter significant performance, memory, and stability issues in TeamSite 6.5. For these reasons, it is strongly recommended to migrate the backing store.
