The Hypersonic db that is used for the default scheduler database is prone to problems like corruption in the database files. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you go ahead and move your scheduler db to a "real" database. Note that if you do, the DDL given in the manual is for Oracle. You will have to change some of the TIMESTAMP columns to DATETIME if you are using MSSQL since it will not accept more than one TIMESTAMP column per table.
