New to TeamSite and I need some admin help

We've recently purchased TeamSite and OpenDeploy. TeamSite has been installed on it's own dedicated server. A separate Web Server and Database Server are also set up. Servers will be used for development, then we''l move content to a hosting web server. All servers are Windows Servers 2003. Access to TeamSite will be via internet (non-trusted domain) via a VPN connection. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what ports in the firewall need to be open to make this happen?

Also, can anyone explain to me the virtual directory (Y:) created by Teamsite and where to find those files on the C:

Is there anything special I need to do to create a share on the TeamSite servers to this Y: drive?

Please tell the version and Service pack of your Teamsite and also let us know why you want to share the Y drive. Y drive is normally located next to all the other drives of your machine.Please read the TS administartion guide to know more bout it.

You can use windows explorer to view the Y: and work on it!

I understand about accessing TeamSite via the "Y:" drive, but I want to connect to that drive via other PCs, so I asking is there anything special about making that a shared drive.

I have the admin guide and am reviewing, but any chapter in particular I should look at?

Often people share Y:/default you can certainly do that or you can go to specific workareas to share.

Users will still need the TS GUI to do submits and other TS functions

Thanks for the reply, my question really is, what ports need to be opened in the firewall for folks to access the gui and the shared drive?

Also, when I click on a file within the gui (an xml or html file for instance), when IE opens, it errors as:

Connection Failed

iwproxy was unable to open a connection to: 10.1.1.2:81
Reason: No error.
What needs to be changed?

Try to map to \\Your TS Server\iwserver Share.
Please note that what you see as "Y:" drive is nothing more than File interface (virtual Drive) to TS Storage,
there are subtle but important differencies with "real" drive behavior

You dont have the "customer web server" used for previewing listening to port 81. Have you configured IIS or any other webserver on the TS machine to listen to port 81 to enable preview of files in TS?

Yes, IIS is configure to listen to port 81. The only problem I've having now is previewing files from within TeamSite.

Again the error I keep getting:

Connection Failed

iwproxy was unable to open a connection to: 10.1.1.2:81
Reason: No error.
I'm fairly certion I need to make changes in IW.CFG. After install, it looks like:

did you go to http://10.1.1.2:81/ ?

See if you have a iw-mount virtual directory in your IIS manager. If not run the following from command line

> iw-home\iw-perl\bin\perl iw-home\install\tspostreboot.pl iw-home IIS

where iw-home is where you have TS installed and iw-home is just iw-home

try this (fill in with your branch/workarea)

http://10.1.1.2:81/iw-mount/default/main/INSERT_BRANCH_HERE/workarea/INSERT_WORKAREA_HERE/index.html (or some html file in that location).

This will work:

http://10.1.1.2:81/iw-mount/default/main/Interwoven/WORKAREA/Interwoven/BTTest/Test.htm

when I access the page via IIS and browse. However, pasting that link into a browser times out from either and RDC connection to the server, or via a VPN connection accessing the server.

May be and may be this is a firewall/VPN issue.

you are asking a lot of newbie-questions. Most forum-visitors refer you to Iwov-training, Iwov-docs & Iwov-consultancy to get these answered properly. I agree with them, "so get yourself a proper Iwov-consultant if you want these complex setups".

Anyway, I'll try to give you some hints:

See the image on https://support.interwoven.com/library/manuals/teamsite/html/650/TS/ts.admin.win/index.html, Chp "TS Architecture".

From this you can see you'll need:
- port 80, to access the TS-GUI
- port ??, for your previewing
- maybe port 1080, to be able to use Launchpad (only needed if endusers edit files WITHOUT templating), I'm not sure abotu this port.
- access to the Y:-drive-share, but in my opinion this is only needed for developers, not for TS-endusers.
