Getting Item Label in TS 6.5

Hi All,

I know that in TS 6.7 there is one FormAPI function IWItem.getLabel() using which label of any item can be retrieved. Is there some way to do the same thing in TS 6.5?

I've an urgent requirement of same functionality in my project.

Playing around with labels is available from TS 6.7 only. Better search out for an unsupported way using InnerHTML.

this is unsupported, but you can try something like this:

// each item gets an internal id "label_NUMBER" by TS
// get element object of first item
var myElement = top.formframe.document.getElementById("label_1");

// get label text
var myLabel = myElement.innerHTML

// set label text
myLabel = "_NEWVALUE_";

get the field id of an item:

// get first occurance of item
var myField = top.formframe.document.getElementsByName("Container/myItem")[0].id;

the number of the label_id and the field_id of an item match (for "field_360" the label is "label_360").
so cut off the "field" and add a "label" and you got your id ;-)

If my Xpath in DCT of any item is /Content/Target/TargetLink/Node, should I get the field ID as:

var myField = top.formframe.document.getElementsByName("/Content/Target/TargetLink/Node")[0].id;

I tried this but the value in myField is coming as undefined.

you do not need the first slash, so in your case it should be "Content/Target/TargetLink/Node".

the easiest way to get the field_id in more complex templates is to mark the relevant item of your dct in firefox and to select "view selection source".

i don't think this is feasible. you can't directly access the description, so you have to loop through all img elements, cross check the id and modify the relevant attributes.
