LiveSite And HTML forms

Hi all, I've got some problems to understand how can I manage data coming from a HTML form using a LiveSite component or a page.

For example: suppose I write an HTML page with a simple form like this:

As you can see the action attribute points to a JSP page. Suppose this JSP page reads the "mytext" parameter value and stores it into a database or simply shows it (like an echo).

I would like to implement the same functionality using LiveSite components. I think I should use some External Object, but I can't understand how I can get the parameter to bo stored into the database.

Is there anybody that can briefly explain it, also with some exaple code?

Let me be more explicit:

If you put

[html]<foo>
  <bar/>
</foo>[/html]

in your post - the result should be:

<foo>
  <bar/>
</foo>

Not sure what you are trying to achieve here using LiveSite? LiveSite is a tool for non-technical users to quickly assemble web pages using visual drag & drop using components which are made available to them by technical team.

If you want to empower your business users to create these kind of forms, you can have a form component where they can insert text fields etc and create the forms they want. But Livesite is not a tool to insert data into database.

In your example, you have to write a java servlet or a perl cgi script which would read the form input and insert data into the database. Or you can create a TeamSite DCR and then use DataDeploy.

Could you give a more high level description of what you are trying to do.

Hi, just a few words to explain better what I want to do.
I'm building a web site where registered users can see some infos depending on their profile.
So I need to create a form to collect data when the users are registering themselves (username, password, first name, last name). Then I need to submit all the form data and store it into a database.

I think I can do that using an external object, but I don't know how to catch data coming from the form.
If I was using a JSP page I would catch that data using the request.getParameter("param-name") method.
