How to set focus for readonly fields

Hi all ,
Using TS 6.5 on Win2003 SP1.
I am having a item to which a browse button is attached
for which i call .cgi file ( cgi-callout url="/iw-bin/wuBrowseBranches.ipl")
which checks for the existense of file .This function is called on event "onItemChange"
This item is readonly so that the user can only browse the image or file .
The problem is that on browsing the file it does recognize it as an event .
Thus this item does perform other validation which are triggered on change of this event.
such as setting the other items as mandatory on change of this item.I want focus should be set
on this field after clicking the browse button but the IWItem.setFocus() is not working
since it does not work for item which are readonly.

Below is the function where i am calling the above file existense script and mandatory field validation on change of this event.
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/article/mainAttachmentContainer/attachmentContainer/attachmentURL", "onItemChange", articleAttachContValidation);

any pointer on this would be highly appreciated.

Secondly, try to make the field to setFocus before making it readonly.

Dont make this field readonly on initialization. Make that setFocus and then SetReadOnly after fetching the value from the cgi-callout.

I'm going to guess that you want to setFocus to the field so that a tab out of it triggers an onChange (based on your initial description of the problem). I think you might be better served to consider calling articleAttachContValidation after you call the setValue on the item from your callout. There is no way to get the focus set to a readOnly field (which is logical, if you think about it. Focus is for user-interaction and users can't interact with a readonly field). So, you need to find another way.
