Hidden item is getting displayed after saving the DCT in view mode

Hi all ,
Using TS 6.5 on Win2003 SP1.
I have having some hidden fields such as length of max character for VFE field of description item
This item i have made hidden through form api "onforminit" .It is not displayed when you open a DCT through "new form entry" or IN edit mode but is visible when i view the DCR after saving it.
how cab I disable this field in view mode also

any pointer on this would be highly appreciated.
