Urgent help needed for Timeout transition

Hi,
I want to send email to users based on the following conditions

1. 24 Hrs before the due date
2. after the due date
3. every 24 Hrs after the due date.

I think this would be best handled by having your workflow register the due dates (along with associated information) in a DB or file somewhere and use a process external to the workflow to query / process that information and send the email. Trying to do this within the workflow itself is probably not the best method.

While ghoti is correct that this might be better accomplished in a different system, it is possible within the workflow system.

This would primarily involve setting variables based on dates entered on the instantiation screen, and using external tasks to set the timeout values of different dummy tasks.

Remember that the timeout attribute can be either a date time value or a time from task activation. Also remember that you can fork workflows so that you have timer tasks that run in parallel to user/group tasks.
Other things that can be used are the selective nature of timeout transitions. If you name a transition "timeout" then tasks with a timeout value will use that transition regardless of the order of transitions? Normally timeout uses the transition id of 0 in determining operational path.

Another thing to think about is that you can use external tasks or cgi tasks to set task variables, but only certain users and roles can modify things like task timeouts.
