Deleting Groups and Roles

I know deleting groups and roles isn't supported and to my knowledge, there's nothing in the SDK to do this either. I'm sure I could delete them directly from the SQL tables, first removing users from the groups and roles (that part at least could be done in dbAdmin) and then pull the group off each document, workspace, folder, etc.

I understand why you wouldn't want to delete a user from the database, for historical purposes and what not. Why wouldn't you want to delete a group or a role? Can anyone provide insight as to why I shouldn't do this other than "it's not recommended?"
