Pruning log file size

What will the implications of deleting iwui log files on the performance of Teamsite server.

Can (acceaa_log,error_log, any other log) log file be deleted and recreated? Will TS work without errors?
Can the Error_log file be set to 0 size without affecting TS?

Please advice.

This is usually called log rotation and it is a subject which has probably already been beaten to death in the forums, I think there are some articles on the support site too that you might want to check out.

If you don't need the log files I can't imagine that there could be any problem, if you just delete them.

What I do (on Windows):
If a log file can't be deleted, I copy an empty file over it (doesn't work on files locked by a Websphere server or databases, but works on the most Teamsite log files).

For best results with TS log files - you want to shut TS down and then move / overwrite / remove the log files and then restart TS (this is what most of the customized log rotation scripts do).

You can often overwrite existing log files by copying an empty file ('nul' on Windows, '/dev/null' on Unix) over the existing log file - but if the log file is currently being held open by a process (e.g. iwserver, iwproxy, iwwebd, etc) then you may get mixed results - in some cases you'll get a log file filled with null character bytes that doesn't actually reduce the size of the log file.

If you have a backup process in place - which usually involves freezing or shutting down TeamSite - it is best to synchronize the log rotation process with the backup process so that both occur when there are no write actions occurring.

Hi. We're revisiting log rotation once again. Just wanted to note that the Technote referred to above came from a Support ticket I worked on quite a while ago and doesn't always work correctly. We've been using it and have the 'null character' issue Fish refers to above.
