No. But:

1. You can give your component properties good default values and a "minimum value" as described here: http://devnet.interwoven.com/forums_vb/showthread.php?t=17208&forumid=66

2. The component itself can render an error message if a required field is absent. Use xsl to check the datum value -- if it is empty or invalid, render some big red text or pop up a JavaScript alert or something. That way it will get the page author's attention, although they can still save the page with the invalid value (which may be a good thing, if they intend to fix the value later).

Would the popup or the red text appear on the conponent content entry screen itself? or would it appear on the rendered page. I tried what you suggested and it seems to appear on the rendered page...

Is you min-max solution applicable for textareas and image datum type also?

I am asking this because in one of the pages, image is a mandatory field and if not present the whole layout gets messed up...

There's no way to make an image mandatory. I recommend that you make the default value of this image have big red letters that say "PLEASE SELECT IMAGE." Maybe it could be an animated .gif with blinking text.

That blank window with the word "false" is very strange. If you could open an issue with Tech Support and tell them what you did to get this window, we will look into it and see if it is a bug.
