Teamsite Silent Install adventures.

Version of teamsite I am installing:

tsconfig version <6.7.0 Build 56018 SYM Interwoven 20060324> Solaris 9

Has anyone managed a silent install for this verion of Teamsite. I cannot find any product documentation on this feature. And I tried following the posting I found about this topic with no success. Note all the result below are using the install.properties file that was generated from a successful install done in console mode.

Here are the install.sh options:

Usage: install.sh [ -i console | -f filename | -h ]

no param Launches installer in GUI mode.
If the DISPLAY environment variable is not defined, or launching from
a remote system, switch to console mode automatically.
-i console Launches installer in console mode.
-f filename Launches installer with specified
installer properties file.
-h Displays this message.

Looking in this script you find more detail:

install.sh - Installer wrapper

And a hint about how this works.. Look to the install.properties file..

You get this if your type ./install.sh -i silent

No as far as I can tell the install.sh is really just a front end for the real installer which is private.bin.

Now private.bin has more options.

Usage: private [-f | -options]
(to execute the installer)

where options include:
-?
show this help text
-i [awt | swing | console | silent]
specify the user interface mode for the installer
-D=
specify installer properties

notes:
1. the path to the installer properties file may be either absolute,
or relative to the directory in which the installer resides.
2. if an installer properties file is specified and exists, all other
command line options will be ignored.
3. if a properties file named either 'installer.properties' or
.properties resides in the same directory as the
installer, it will automatically be used, overriding all other command
line options, unless the '-f' option is used to point to another valid
properties file.
4. if an installer properties file is specified but does not exist, the
default properties file, if present, will be used. Otherwise, any
supplied command line options will be used, or if no additional
options were specified, the installer will be run using the default
settings.

So I figured I would go straight to the source and try private.bin

./private.bin -f -i silent

It goes away happy, returns a prompt. But I get errors in the install log file on not being able to find the licence file and this error..

Which goes on forever. Anyone have experience with this,or crafted a solutions for this, or can point me in a direction where I can at least get some documentation on the expected format of the install.properites file..

i dont know if this helps.. but i got the same error message

Module "tsserver" failed at phase IW_INSTALL_MODE_PREINSTALL

the installer had given me a warning that my /tmp directory was full.. once i increased the size of that to the size of swap space it worked fine..

i was installing 6.7.1 on solaris 10

Hi,

The documentation doesn't include information about a silent install because it is not supported for TeamSite 6.7x. Interwoven doesn't recommend that you use a silent install.

If you absolutely need to do a silent install, I would recommend contacting Interwoven Support to get additional information and discuss your implementation.

Regarding TS 6.5 on Solaris:

We had similar trials working out a silent install... I think that at some point, I even believed that I had it worked out (and described it on devnet). But when I passed it off to our server installation team, they came across the same issue as yours.

I'm pretty sure we finally got silent install working for the sp2 (ts + search) and patches (id 1614), but not for the base install (ts + search). (*)

If you absolutely need to do a silent install, I would recommend contacting Interwoven Support to get additional information and discuss your implementation.

good luck with that... we did that, and it got turned into a feature request #64997 that now seems to be gathering dust somewhere.

the support engineer did say (about install.sh -f /path/install.properties) "This command is used by our internal Engineering and testing team to test the product. As such this command is not officially supported." So you would think it can be made to work.

I'll be all ears to hear more (success stories) :cool:

(*) My memory is rather fuzzy on this point, but a vague memory says that when I installed TS 6.5 (base) with interactive console, then uninstalled it, and then installed it silently, THAT worked... But I could easily be wrong - it's 11 months ago.
