I remember this topic came up about 6 months ago but why is that page static, anyway? I would think a software company like Interwoven would easily be able to produce a dynamic page that not only shows everyone's current level but also shows a special icon to indicate whether or not the person is "active" at the moment and other quasi-cool stuff like that.

As the population of DevNet keeps growing we will work on automating more parts of the site so that your Pats are instantaneous.

I'll work on coming up with something better than two diamonds. I am open to recommendations for updating the current rating system. I don't want to downgrade anyone's jewels below what they have, but maybe we can add colored diamonds. Please let me know if you would be interested in that.

I've already agreed to naming my first child Ghoti Smiley Wink

...because of Adam's great contributions, butI'm not sure if a DevNet level is the best solution.

I don't know if naming a contribution level as Ghoti would work, because it still never gives Adam a change in level...and sounds a little like posthumous naming. :rolleyes:

somehow "downgrading anyone's jewels" sounds a bit risque ;-)

No - I don't want a level named after me - at least not yet.

I never thought the gem system was particularly well thought out - we could do periodic elements, it's kind of old-school, somewhat finite, but could be used in a structured manner:

or something along those lines that provides smaller steps at the beginning and then bigger steps afterwards with plenty of room for growth.I'm not crazy about the periodic system either - but it provides a structure. If someone has an alternative suggestion with as much growth potential I'm willing to hear it.Also - if you want to create non-element steps up front (like for every 10 or 20 posts until an element-level is hit) that's cool too - but they should not be phrased in such a manner that it becomes confusing as to which level is higher (I can just see all sorts of people marking off a bookmark for the periodic table so that they can compare their level to someone elses ;-)That's my 5-minute thought on the subject.

Actually, I think I mentioned this idea a long time ago to Lissa - but I wasn't thrilled about using the periodic table as a basic then either - it's just the only thing I can think of that provides symbolic names with sufficient depth for this purpose.

As I said before - if you can come up with something else that provides that kind of depth in structure - please feel free to suggest it - otherwise I'm likely to be come 3rd-life, 4th-life, etc. which seems kind of lame.
