Form API Replicant add issue. A Bug?

Hi,
I have a javascript funtion. The purpose of the function is to set the item "newwindow"s value to "No" by default each time a new replicant is added.


IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/cnt_banners/Banner","OnReplicantAdded",
 setDefault);

function setDefault(item)
{
    item.getChildByName('newwindow').setValue(1));
}

It throws the following error:
'null' is null or not an object

But when I display the item, it gives the following correctly:

[IWItem radio /cnt_banners/Banner[2]/newwindow]

The replicant item in the DCT is as follows:

Open in a new window

I am on TeamSite 6.5 on Solaris 8.

Can any one help me out? Thanks for any help.

A couple of ideas - try setValue(1+"") to turn it into a string value or try setValue("yes") since the option value is yes not 1 - just a thought.

In your code above you have extra closing brackets in one statement. Possible typo.


item.getChildByName('newwindow').setValue(1));

And do you have a root container also for the cnt_banners container. If so, then try prefix that in the addItemHandler statement.

Even after fixing all that it won't work.
The problem is setValue(1) for Radio Button.

According to "FormAPI Developer’s Guide":
IWItem.setValue (value)
. . .
For single <select> and <radio> items, value is the number of the zero-based
index of the option to select.
Whatever that means, neither child.setValue(1) nor child.setValue("no") will work.

Here is what will:
var child = item.getChildByName('newwindow');
if (child != null) {
var optionsArray = child.getOptions();
optionsArray[1].selected = true;
child.setOptions(optionsArray);
}

Peculiarities of setValue aside...
Why didn't you use "selected" attribute in your DCT in the first place ? Like that:
<option label="No" value="no" selected="t"/>

This way, your replicant items will appear with "no" checked without any code. Just curious.

Yes I could have done that. The DCTs are very old. I never worked on them and since the error was with the JavaScript I didn't think beyond the error I was getting and was stuck with it. Another strange thing is it perfectly worked fine with 5.5.2. After migrating to 6.5 the users started seeing this error.
