Server Rebuild of user SIDS?
System
Does anyone have a redundancy backup process of storing and rebuilding the SIDS of Windows groups and users in the situation that you would have to restore in case of a catastrophic server failure?
We recently went through a horrid firedrill of rebuilding window server. Although we restored our Windows groups and users, the users were fine b/c they are all driven by active directory however, the SIDS of the Windows groups changed. Therefore, the Windows groups didn't match the new group SIDS and we had to manually rebuild all permissions in the db.
What do you do and what is a good backup plan?
Thx all!

Were the groups local to the MediaBin server?

Yes they were Windows local groups. The users were from the active directory.

You could write a backup script to export and import your permissions. Interwoven distributes a sample MediaBin COM SDK application called MigratePermissions that does both. It can be used to export MediaBin folder permissions to a file formatted as xml. This file could be archived so it is available to restore your MediaBin folder permissions. You would still have to recreate your local Windows groups and users, making sure the account names exactly match those of the original server. When importing permissions, the script removes any existing MediaBin folder permissions, then applies new permissions from the file by looking up users and groups by name, not SID.
